Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta Realizes Commitment to Empowering Women Farmers through the "Eggcellent Future" Program
Yogyakarta, 26 September 2024 – As part of its commitment to support community empowerment and sustainability, Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta has launched the "Eggcellent Future: Empowering Communities through the Cage-Free Eggs Program." Through this initiative, Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta donated USD 10,000 from the Banyan Global Fund to two women farmer groups (Kelompok Wanita Tani - KWT) in Tridadi and Pandowoharjo Villages. This aid aims to support the cage-free chicken farming initiative, focusing on improving community welfare and public health.
Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta has also partnered with the Global Food Partner and the Faculty of Animal Science at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) to provide technical assistance and training to the two KWTs. The program is expected to enhance the skills and knowledge of women farmers in sustainable poultry farming and open new economic opportunities through the sale of cage-free eggs. In addition to positively impacting community welfare, this program aligns with Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta's sustainability commitment by promoting more environmentally friendly farming practices. The eggs produced are also healthier, containing higher levels of protein, vitamin D, healthy fats, vitamin B12, choline, minerals, and antioxidants that are beneficial for the body. Consequently, the price of these eggs will be higher than regular eggs. It is also hoped that members of the women farmer groups will become educational agents for their families and surrounding communities, encouraging the consumption of cage-free eggs.
"We are very proud to contribute to a program that not only focuses on economic aspects but also social and environmental well-being. Through this collaboration, we hope to support community welfare and create a more sustainable future for the local community," said Ridwan Heriyadi, General Manager of Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta.
